Care and maintenance of full dentures

The new teeth may seem very bulky and uncomfortable at first, but rest assured that over time you will get so used to them that you will forget their presence in your mouth. But this process requires using dentures and getting used to them and trying to adapt to them. So you need to be patient.

  1. At the beginning of using dentures, your saliva may increase, which is normal and will become normal after a few days.
  2. As their name suggests, movable teeth have a degree of movement. Movement is an inherent part of dentures, despite all our efforts to obtain maximum grip and stability, the denture will still have some movement. This movement may be interpreted by you as laziness, which is not correct. To have teeth without movement, enough implants (at least 5 to 7) should be used. But in the mobile prosthesis, you should expect some amount of looseness, which is natural and cannot be fixed. Of course, we must emphasize that we have done our best to make a stable tooth for you. In addition, this inherent movement will be much more intense in the lower jaw and in those who have weakened gums. But you can minimize it by learning how to hold your teeth with your muscles.
  3. The natural movement of dentures always causes some food to penetrate under the denture while eating, which must be cleaned after eating.
  4. In the first days after delivery, eating with new dentures will be difficult. You should note that to eat with new teeth, you must start with softer foods. At the same time, you must chew the bites from both sides. Since the denture does not have a root in the jaw, if you leave the bite on one side, the tooth will rise on the other side, and this issue will be completely natural. So you should chew food both ways. At the same time, note that at the beginning of using the teeth, the teeth may collide while eating. This is normal and will get better as you gain control over your teeth. Eating with new dentures will be learned in a short time.
  5. Remember that your teeth are made according to the tissues of your mouth while moving your mouth. So you may feel that the gums are normally short and do not reach the floor of the mouth, which is correct and if the chin is not observed, it will lead to sores or severe denture loosening.
  6. With the use of dentures in the first weeks, some areas of the mouth will suffer from sores, inflammation, pain, or discomfort. You may even have a sore throat. This issue is related to the length of some parts of the teeth, which will be corrected by visiting us and adjusting these areas, and there is no reason to worry. Of course, note that these settings should only be done by a dentist in Canada, otherwise it will lead to irreparable damage to the dentures.
  7. After handing over the dentures in the first weeks, there will be some changes in your speech, which will be resolved with the passage of time and the adaptation of the language to the new situation. To speed up this process, it is better to read the newspaper out loud.
  8. With the delivery of new dentures, both you and those around you will notice changes in the shape of your face, which, although it will look more natural, you may interpret as ugly. Note that during the time you were toothless or had an old denture, you got used to its appearance, even if it was not beautiful. So, with a little patience and using the new denture, you will adapt to its appearance. We will do our best to provide your opinions.
  9. Note that the teeth must be out of the mouth at night so that your gums can rest. Otherwise, you will lead to severe destruction of your gum tissue, which will be destroyed within a few years and you will no longer be able to use any type of prosthesis. The exception to this issue is that night when you have to go tomorrow to fix the bite, and you have to keep the tooth (even if it is difficult to bear) in your mouth so that we can see the wounds clearly and fix the dentures.
  10. Whenever the tooth is out of the mouth, you must prevent it from drying out and put it in a container of water, otherwise, it will cause its shape to change and it will no longer fit in its place.
  11. You can use a soft toothbrush and dishwashing liquid to clean your teeth. Do not use toothpaste for this, because it wears the tooth. When washing, place a bowl of water under your hand so that the dentures do not break when they fall on the sink or the floor. These teeth are fragile and need serious care. After every meal and also at night before going to bed, wash your hands and massage your gums, and if there are any teeth in your mouth, wash them with toothpaste and a toothbrush.
  12. In people who have several natural teeth in their front jaw, the probability of breaking dentures will be much higher. Although we try to minimize the possibility of denture breakage by following considerations such as strengthening the teeth with metal, this possibility never reaches Saqr and the denture may break during eating or the day. In these cases, we will repair your denture and there is no need to worry. Of course, the use of metal in the denture or its repair will require additional costs.
  13. To disinfect your teeth, if no metal is used in them, you can use Vitex diluted with a ratio of 1 unit of Vitex and 5 units of water and place them in this liquid for thirty minutes every day. If metal is used in the hands of the teeth, use salt water for disinfection. The teeth should be cleaned with a toothbrush before placing them in the liquid.
  14. It is necessary to visit us every six months to one year after the initial follow-up to control the number of changes in the mouth and if there is a need to correct the dentures.
