Types of bone grafting in dental implants

Bone grafting includes several types, and the specialist dentist in Windsor determines the type of treatment needed by measuring the distance between the bone surface of the jaw and the upper sinus of the tooth. This issue depends on the condition of the person’s jaw bone as well as the density of the jaw bone. Of course, if a person implants an implant right after tooth extraction or according to the dentist two months after tooth extraction, there will be no need for this side treatment.

Basis of bone graft classification

Generally, bone grafting in dental implants is classified based on two general indicators. The first indicator that is very important in determining the type of bone graft is the source from which the bone is taken for grafting. In the following, we will discuss what we mean by this word. The second indicator that dentists consider is the area that has bone damage. Based on these two bases, bone grafting for dental implant treatment is usually divided into 4 categories: autograft, allograft, xenograft, and aluplast.

Types of bone grafting in dental implants

We mentioned above that special categories are made for this treatment based on different bases. However, the most common type of classification is based on the source of bone powder for bone graft treatment. In the following, we will examine four types of bone grafting in dental implant placement based on this basis.

Autograft bone grafting

Another name for this type of bone graft is autogenous. Usually, because this operation has the lowest risk and rejection of the graft and has the highest positive results compared to the other treatments that we will talk about later, this type of treatment is the first choice of implantologists to compensate for the lost structure. The jawbone is in the area of the dental implant.

Usually, to perform this operation, the bone powder required for implant implantation is from the individual himself. In this way, a sample of bone marrow cells is taken from the person’s body and placed in the treated area. This type of bone transplant operation has the highest success rate and the fastest length of treatment among other bone transplant treatments because living bone marrow cells are taken from the patient.

Allograft bone grafting

We have mentioned above that usually the bone powder that a specialist dentist uses for autograft bone transplantation is received from the individual himself. If a person needs a large amount of bone or does not want to take a bone graft from his body, this type of bone graft is used for him. The source from which bone powder is prepared for bone graft treatment is usually another person’s body or a bone graft bank. In general, if a person needs a large volume of bone for the bone graft required for a dental implant , if they use this method, they no longer need additional surgeries to create bone grafts of unlimited size. In this case, sufficient bone grafting can be done completely for the person in just one surgical procedure. This issue is very effective in the cost and length of the treatment period.

Xenograft bone grafting for dental implants

For xenograft bone transplantation, the bone powder is no longer prepared from the bone graft bank or the body of different people. Rather, it is prepared from other organisms whose bone tissues are very similar to human bone tissues. Usually, for this treatment, bone powder is prepared from animals such as cows. Xenograft bone grafting is also recommended for people who need dental bone grafting in a large area.

Aluplast bone grafting

One of the treatment methods of bone grafting, which has been used for this treatment for several years, is a method for forming bone tissue from a series of synthesizing substances that stimulate the natural bones at the dental implant site to form and build bone at the site. It is recommended for implant placement. This treatment method has the lowest risk of infection compared to other bone grafting methods for dental implants. Unfortunately, the effectiveness of this new treatment method is less than that of other treatments. To do that, the injection of synthesizing materials requires special conditions, which the implantologist decides on after examining the treated area.
