Care after gum surgery treatment

In this article, we will mention the things that need to be observed and performed after gum surgery.

  • After gum surgery, don’t spit out hard, and avoid repeating it as much as possible.
  • Avoid manipulating the dressing with your hands, tongue, or sucking it. If the dressing falls off, there is no need to visit again.
  • Rest the first day after gum surgery.
  • Take your medications as directed.
  • Use prescribed pain relievers to relieve pain.
  • Avoid eating and drinking sour food and drinks.
  • On the first day, use liquid and cold foods. From the next day, avoid consuming hot and chewy foods and use soft foods, and chew the food from the other side that does not have a dressing.
  • Do not use mouthwash or brush your teeth on the first day.
  • Do not smoke for a week after gum surgery.
  • Avoid vigorous physical activity for a few days.
  • On the first day after the surgery, you can cool the operated area from the outside of the mouth using an ice pack and compress. (every ten minutes and for several minutes)
  • From the second day onwards, brush your teeth first after every meal (except for the surgical area) and then use mouthwash (if prescribed by the dentist in Canada) gently and without pressure.
  • After removing the dressing and removing the stitches, in the first days, brush the teeth of the operated area slowly and carefully, and be careful not to put pressure on the gums.
  • After gum surgery, the tooth may become sensitive to thermal stimulation, which will decrease over time and eventually disappear.
  • Do not use a straw to drink liquids and drink liquids with a glass.
  • In the first week after surgery, complications such as swelling or bruising may be observed in the area. If you see it, there is no need to worry and it will improve after a week.
